Infine joins Food Data Finland project to Develop Sustainability in the Food Industry Supply Chains

A shared understanding of sustainability and how it’s defined is key to creating a more functional and responsible world. At Infine, we are proud to announce our involvement in the Food Data Finland project.

Coordinated by GS1 Finland , Food Data Finland is an ambitious initiative aimed at developing sustainable practices in the Finnish food industry. The project brings together more than 30 food producers and research organizations, collaborating to support the use of new standards and services. This network spans the entire food chain —from primary production to retail— with a common goal of enhancing organizations’ ability to leverage data to tackle future sustainability challenges and find new competitive advantages. Through collaborative development projects, Food Data Finland aims to improve the sector’s efficiency, growth, predictability, export capabilities, and enriched data use.

A Sub-Project to Create New Ways to Measure Product and Company Sustainability

Infine is coordinating a sub-project within Food Data Finland, working alongside the the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and nine major Finnish food industry companies.

Together with ApetitFazer GroupHKScanKeskoLeijona CateringOlviOrklaSnellman Lihanjalostus and Sodexo. Infine is exploring the best ways to utilize sustainability data. Our challenge is to develop advanced sustainability data models and software, positioning Finland as a global leader in sustainable food production.

The project has generated significant interest, reflecting the demand and collective desire to discover innovative ways to enhance food industry supply chains through scientifically defined and automatically generated data.

The shared goal of Food Data Finland is to improve the sustainability and transparency of the Finnish food chain, foster collaboration among its stakeholders, and develop sustainability metrics for the entire food chain. Achieving these sustainability goals and finding new competitive advantages could elevate Finland’s global competitiveness and boost export revenues.

The project aims to create a system that allows efficient data collection and analysis at various stages of the food chain, thereby improving the overall sustainability of the industry. Leading with sustainability data means reducing environmental impacts, improving resource efficiency, and ensuring more responsible use of raw materials.

We believe we are working towards a significant shift, not only in Finland but also internationally.

We will continue to report on Infine’s work in this collaboration. Follow our journey with our partners as we develop new ways to elevate sustainability in the food industry to new heights.
